See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth;
the season for singing has come…
-Song of Solomon 2:11-12

Those words may be a bit premature. Winter isn’t quite over; we’ll probably be getting more rain soon. But there are sounds of singing in the drainage ditch behind our house. I love going to sleep to the sound of those crazy little amazingly loud frogs!

This poor sweet daffodil is probably doomed to be frozen in a damp heap of snow. But I choose to see it as evidence that spring is on its way; that our hills will soon be covered in green; that the frog eggs our kids collected in buckets will hatch into wriggly tadpoles… and that it’s time for me to wash all of the snowsuits and pack them back in their rubbermaid tub.

About ruthie.voth

Wife of one, mother of four, friend of many. Lover of details, color, good conversations, finding balance, and being honest. Passionate lover of a well-crafted sentence - even more so if it's witty. Weird blend of cynical optimist. I'm the worst kind of woman. I'm high maintenance, but I think I'm low maintenance. Somehow, people still love me. Must be grace.
