say what to who?

My children are all gone to Indiana for the weekend. It’s empty and quiet around here.

They left Friday morning at 8:00, and none of them called home until Sunday morning around 8:00. That’s 48 hours without missing mom and dad! I’m okay with that. But it was nice to hear Malin and Avery’s voices. They didn’t have a whole lot to say. Avery told me: “I just called Santa S-A-T-A-N.”  I didn’t quite get what she was talking about. When Malin got back on the phone, she wanted to tell me the same story – and she did a more thorough job of the telling.

On the wall at the church where they’re staying, there’s a sign that says, “Say no to Satan.” Avery looked at it and read out loud, “Say no to Santa.”

Made me laugh.

About ruthie.voth

Wife of one, mother of four, friend of many. Lover of details, color, good conversations, finding balance, and being honest. Passionate lover of a well-crafted sentence - even more so if it's witty. Weird blend of cynical optimist. I'm the worst kind of woman. I'm high maintenance, but I think I'm low maintenance. Somehow, people still love me. Must be grace.
