-just messing around-

I realize we have this huge chapel building project going on here at camp and there’s enough work to keep more than all of us busy for more time than we have. Call me wacko, or call me a typical woman, but I’m never completely happy if I’m not multitasking. So apart from all this construction that’s happening, I’ve been having the. best. time. at the house down the hill from us.

We have a reunion group coming in this weekend who will need to use this building for lodging, so I’ve been trying to get things ready for them. But at the same time, I’m realizing that this house is camp property, and therefore our responsibility to take care of in the future. There are lots of things that need to be done, and at the moment I think I’m the only person with a vision for the end result.

Things like this are happening:

I’m getting a chance to make all my pinterest dreams come true! I love colored front doors. This was a dingy brownish-yellow that needed some love.

There’s also this kind of crazy mess:

I think I counted 4 layers of wallpaper – and the final layer was painted. I’ve been advised to give up on this – more or less. Paint it with a coat of Kilz to seal out any moisture; then cover it in drywall mud and sand it down. Or something like that. I haven’t completely decided on my plan of attack.

This has also been happening, and it makes me extremely happy:

I appreciate the fact that these floors have been so nicely protected for us all these years. Now I just need to find the proper tool to remove all the carpet tack strips without damaging the floor. Roger told me to look with his bee stuff for his hive tool.  …. Yeah. That’s as successful as every other tool-finding errand I get sent on around here.

The wood floors all seem to be in decent shape, but I’m seeing a lot of this in my future:

I can tear out carpet, strip wallpaper, paint anything that needs to be painted, but… I can’t work a drill. Although, just like the tool-finding story…. if I had any confidence that I could lay my hands on a drill with a fully charged battery when I’m ready to use it, I think I could figure it out myself. I’m seriously thinking of asking for a drill for my birthday. (Either that, new sneakers or a network hard drive.) Either way, someone needs to use a drill around here, because there are some empty windows in some very important places where people will need curtains before Friday evening. Got the curtains, got the rods – now I just need a skilled laborer.

And that’s where I’ve been lately. And probably will continue to be any time I have a free hour or two.

I should be spending some of that free time in my garden, but I completely forgot I had one. For real. Last night I was thinking about salsa, and how good my salsa was this year, and how nice it would be to make more, and it hit me: Oh, that’s right! We have a garden out there and there are peppers and tomatoes! Growing! And they probably need to be picked right now! There are probably enough vegetables out there to make a whole batch of salsa.

This brain may be just a little bit distracted.

Love the door. Looks like you are having fun! Those wood floors are downright drooly. Better harvest those peppers and onions. They didn’t do well here, at all!

If you like bright doors, you should move to Ireland. 😉 I’d love to come help you with the hardwood floors – they’re b-e-a-u-tiful! I love Roger’s advice: “Go look with his bee stuff – it’s the hive tool.” It just sounds… so… Roger-ish… 🙂

I kinda forgot I have a garden, too. I have tomatoes coming out my ears, so I had caught up with them all by making the best chili one night and the best tuna pomodoro another night, and I was so happy that all my tomatoes were diced and eaten that I forgot I still had a bunch in the garden. Reckon I’d better get to pickin’ too. 🙂

I agree about the garden produce. Pick it or send one of your 4 to do it. Ours tomatoes didn’t do well either. Glad you’re finding/taking time to work on the things you can, at the house where you could be living one day.

So wish I could come up there and help you with that house! Looks like fun ; )
