Yesterday while we were driving to Lexington, Malin amused herself by drawing in the back seat. After awhile, she tossed this priceless gift up to me:

In case you couldn’t quite decipher the handwriting, it says, “Mom, in this pic I’m out of bed and on your last nerve. You’re getting really mad. Avery would be in this pic but she is in bed.”

This made me laugh. A lot.

The body language of the little girl in the drawing suggests a contrite and penitent heart. Maybe that’s what Malin actually feels inside during these late night missions to save the world. Funny. All I ever see is a cheerfully apologetic girl who is “going to get right back into bed as soon as she does this super important thing.”

Someday I’m going to write a book and have this girl illustrate it.

On second thought… she’ll probably write her own book. I’ll just be her proofreader.

About ruthie.voth

Wife of one, mother of four, friend of many. Lover of details, color, good conversations, finding balance, and being honest. Passionate lover of a well-crafted sentence - even more so if it's witty. Weird blend of cynical optimist. I'm the worst kind of woman. I'm high maintenance, but I think I'm low maintenance. Somehow, people still love me. Must be grace.

  1. What are you like when someone is on your last nerve.Other than hands on hips. What do you say. I’m just a wee bit curious.

So I asked Malin to answer this. Apparently (this is a belated combination of her thoughts and mine) I talk louder, I’m more snappy, and I ignore the kids unless they’re directly asking me a question. Something like that.

That girl is something else. I LOVE it!
