I’ve helped several people get their blogs started and I don’t think any of them would be offended to know that this latest one is my favorite. My 12-year-old Malin has started a blog and right now she’s completely in love with the process.
Seventh grade has really made her brain come alive – or at least the writing side of it. The other day, she was filling a couple of pages with writing and she looked at me and said, “Miss Plummer has just opened a whole new world for me!” She went on to explain different tips that her teacher has given her about writing. There was a lot of joy on her face in that moment.
A little like the joy that she exudes when she’s playing Legend of Zelda and her daddy tells her to smile at the camera.
And in case any of you teachers need some encouragement, the advice she shared with me didn’t really sound all that profound or life-changing. “Write on every other line of your page” and “When you make a mistake, don’t take the time to scribble the whole thing out; a single strike-through will do.”
You just never know what may inspire one of your students. Keep passing along your wisdom, even when you think it’s not.
So. Be a pal. Click over to Malin’s blog sometime and show her some love. Just try not to give her the big head. (Do you use that phrase where you’re from, or is that local?)
