-sometimes you just have to laugh and drive away fast-

There are moments that would feel awkward if they happened in front of someone you know, but if the same thing happens in front of a stranger…. it’s just flat-out funny.

We were walking out of a McDonald’s late at night into a dark parking lot, just my husband and me. Instead of going our separate ways to our own car doors, he walked first with me to my side of the vehicle. Because I’m occasionally the more observant of the two of us and because I know my husband well, I gave him a quick heads-up: “There’s someone in the car beside us. Don’t do anything scandalous.”

He complied by giving me an innocent kiss and then opening the door for me. As I settled in and reached for my seat belt, I glanced up and saw the older lady in the next car looking at me and laughing through her open window. So much for being subtle.

You’re welcome, ma’am. If you’re sitting alone in a McDonald’s parking lot after dark, you probably need a good laugh. I’m sure you’re wondering what would have happened if I hadn’t said anything.

Here’s to amorous husbands. They keep life interesting.

And here’s to men who listen to their wives.

About ruthie.voth

Wife of one, mother of four, friend of many. Lover of details, color, good conversations, finding balance, and being honest. Passionate lover of a well-crafted sentence - even more so if it's witty. Weird blend of cynical optimist. I'm the worst kind of woman. I'm high maintenance, but I think I'm low maintenance. Somehow, people still love me. Must be grace.
